Persons attending an NPPO course from Aug 1st 07 will receive two certificates.
This can be achieved by attendance at a RoPPPs update day (these were formally known as re-validation courses) Those attending a RoPPP's update day will be awarded a certificate which will certify their inclusion on the RoPPP's register and will recognise the currency of their knowledge for 5 years.
Having an NPPO does not prove competence to perform a job - like an NVQ would. It does, however, certify that the holder has the underpinning knowledge to understand the practices and theory involved in pool plant operation. This is evidenced by the end of course assessments.
Those attending a RoPPP's update seminar will still need to provide evidence that they have completed a full NPPO, so they must produce their certificate (or a copy).
You need to have a current ISRM National Pool Plant Operators Certificate, this will include those of you who have attended an NPPO course or a revalidation course (as they were previously known) within the last 5 years.
In the event that a pool plant related incident occurred in your facility and you or your organisation were accused of negligence, the onus would be on you to prove that you were competent and had not acted negligently. This is much easier to prove if you have a nationally recognised qualification such as the NPPO and that you could demonstrate your knowledge is up to date by participating in CPD as is demonstrated by being on RoPPPs.
