FAQs

What certificates will I Receive when I attend an NPPO?

Persons attending an NPPO course from Aug 1st 07 will receive two certificates.

  1. An Active IQ Certificate (Awarding Body) this is valid for life and cannot be dual badged.
  2. An ISRM NPPO Certificate which will state that the holder will automatically be registered on the ISRM's Register of Pool Plant Professionals (RoPPPs). They will be required to update their knowledge gained within five years of the certification date to keep their place on the register. This demonstrates that they have maintained the currency of technical knowledge essential in pool plant operation.

How do I keep my place on the RoPPPs register?

This can be achieved by attendance at a RoPPPs update day (these were formally known as re-validation courses) Those attending a RoPPP's update day will be awarded a certificate which will certify their inclusion on the RoPPP's register and will recognise the currency of their knowledge for 5 years.

Does having an NPPO Certificate prove competence?

Having an NPPO does not prove competence to perform a job - like an NVQ would. It does, however, certify that the holder has the underpinning knowledge to understand the practices and theory involved in pool plant operation. This is evidenced by the end of course assessments.

Do I need to bring my NPPO Certificate to an update day and does it need to be in date?

Those attending a RoPPP's update seminar will still need to provide evidence that they have completed a full NPPO, so they must produce their certificate (or a copy).

What qualifications do I need to get on the RoPPPs?

You need to have a current ISRM National Pool Plant Operators Certificate, this will include those of you who have attended an NPPO course or a revalidation course (as they were previously known) within the last 5 years.

Is there a legal obligation to be on the register?

In the event that a pool plant related incident occurred in your facility and you or your organisation were accused of negligence, the onus would be on you to prove that you were competent and had not acted negligently. This is much easier to prove if you have a nationally recognised qualification such as the NPPO and that you could demonstrate your knowledge is up to date by participating in CPD as is demonstrated by being on RoPPPs.
