Setting the standard!
Application information packs are now available for this year's ISRM & IQL Lifeguard Triathlon. If you've competed before it's a chance to motivate your staff at what might be a challenging time and aim to beat your previous score and overall placings. If you are new to the Lifeguard Triathlon then it's a great opportunity to benchmark your staff against hundreds from across the UK and reward those who put in that extra effort.
The Lifeguard Triathlon is based on key aspects of the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification; swim, theory and CPR. With the tests being conducted at your own facility by your own trainer assessors on a date of your choice in May, it is a cost effective and exciting training and benchmarking tool which contributes to the requirement to conduct regular competency tests.
As well as a league table for the best individual scores, the title of best lifeguard team is up for grabs to the facility whose top 6 lifeguards have the best average score.
As well as motivating your lifeguards to perform on a national level, it's an opportunity to reward those that perform the best within your facility or organisation and generate positive local press coverage for this often undervalued profession. You may have policies in place to ensure that staff attend regular training, but offering to reward them for demonstrating they've benefited from that training could ensure that they want to attend. It could also motivate them to take the time to read their manuals and the posters and memos you make available to them.
The 2010 competition will see if anyone can break Sharley Park Leisure Centre's dominance, with Jack Chambers winning the individual competition for the last three years.
Whether you want to know if your lifeguards are up to standard or if you think they are capable of winning, the question you need to ask yourself is ‘are your lifeguards good enough?'
