ISPAL to be open for business in January

Organisational arrangements for the new Institute for Sport, Parks and Leisure (ISPAL) have now been confirmed, following a recent meeting of the ILAM national council, that will see ISPAL open for business at the start of January at ILAM's HQ in Berkshire.

The ILAM council reconsidered the options for ILAM House in the context of the bids received for its sale and the financial implications for ILAM and ISPAL.

According to Paddy Corcoran, chair of ILAM council, the decision of council gives the best possible start for the creation of a new body for the sector.

"In business terms, the development of ISPAL will be strengthened by the retention of an asset like ILAM House," he said. "In addition, while we are making a fresh start with a new organisation and new culture, taking forward some of the heritage associated with the ILAM site, stretching back to the days of the Institute for Parks and Recreation Administration (IPRA), will only be of benefit to ISPAL in terms of credibility throughout the sector."

A business plan and staff structure for ISPAL has been developed and Sport England has confirmed that it will provide funding support for the implementation of these plans. ISPAL is expected to open for business in the New Year.
