There are a range of membership categories:

Our members are responsible for managing and developing sport in the UK. We have members employed at all levels in the sport and recreation industry; from aspiring front line managers of sport and recreation facilities, sports development officers and managers to the heads of private sector companies, trusts, consultancies, national governing bodies of sport and local authority leisure departments.
ISRM can help you develop the technical and management skills essential to success. We have a progressive pathway of training programmes aimed at all levels in the sport and recreation industry, many of which lead to ISRM membership. Their strength lies in the fact that they are designed and delivered by the industry for those working in the industry.
Pool plant and spa operation
Join the 5000 sport and recreation staff who successfully complete an ISRM pool or spa plant operation course every year. The definitive nationally recognised technical qualification used by more local authorities and private leisure operators in the UK than any other training provider.

ISRM runs courses for trainer assessors to qualify them to deliver Unit 2 of the RLSS (UK) National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.
ISRM provides a distance learning programme designed to cover the basic requirements of working with disabled customers and staff, incorporating key aspects of the disability discrimination act (DDA).
Under the brand name SportExcel we organise an unrivalled range of continuing professional development seminars and workshops, with subject areas responding to the ever changing demands of the industry and the needs of members and non-members alike.

Some of our courses are delivered at approved training centres, including the workplace, and in colleges of further and higher education, part time or as modules in full time courses of study. In addition, the ISRM Sport and Recreation Management Certificate can be studied by distance learning, whilst the ISRM Sport and Recreation Operations Certificate and Sport and Recreation Supervisory Management Certificate are available as 1-4 day short courses at venues throughout the country.
An introductory level qualification specifically designed for sport and recreation assistants/ pool attendants working, or aspiring to work in a range of sport and recreation facilities including sports centres, swimming pools and health and fitness clubs. It provides candidates with essential background knowledge in a number of core subjects which will enable them to develop their skills in the work place, whilst also allowing individuals to specialise in a number of areas of their choice.
The role of the supervisor is a crucial one in all sport and recreation organisations. Supervisors are not only responsible for the day to day performance of other staff, they are usually the first point of contact with customers. To do this job effectively requires an extensive range of skills and a considerable amount of confidence. This qualification has been specifically designed to address the needs of those stepping up the early rungs of the managerial ladder.
This qualification is aimed at managers of facilities, sports development officers, duty officers and those wishing to enter the profession. Candidates must successfully complete the twelve units from the professional sports management pathway of the City and Guilds Higher Professional Diploma in Sport and Recreation Management.
Alternatively, graduates who have gained an ISRM accredited degree in sports management can gain the ISRM Sport and Recreation Management Certificate via the full exemption route.
It is the essential professional qualification for those working in the industry and leads to full membership of ISRM for candidates who have the requisite industry experience.
In this modern, competitive climate the need to keep up to date with the latest management thinking and information has never been felt so acutely. For members holding the Sport and Recreation Management Certificate, and hungry for progression in their professional career, the Diploma offers the opportunity to expand your knowledge and develop a strategic approach to managing sport and recreation facilities and development services at the highest level.
This qualification can now be obtained by completing the new City & Guilds Master Professional Diploma.
