Sports medicine is the name given to the study and treatment of injuries and illness incurred through playing sport. Much of the work involved in this highly specialised field takes place in formal sports injury clinics or sports medicine centres. Among the several specialists to be found working in sports medicine are medical doctors/consultants, chartered physiotherapists and sports nutritionists.
To work in sports medicine, a university degree is prerequisite in any of the medical disciplines (medicine, physiotherapy, nutrition etc) before any specialisation and further study in sport is possible.
