New group to take forward drive for improved sports facilities - DCMS press release 27 May 2004

A new group chaired by the Sports Minister Richard Caborn MP, will bring together government and grassroots campaigners seeking new and improved sports facilities. The move was announced following the latest meeting of the playing fields monitoring group, the body set up in 2000 to examine latest information on their use and any proposals to re-develop facilities. The playing fields group and the existing sports facilities strategy group will be merged to put playing fields at the heart of government policy on sport. The new body will include government representatives as well as the National Playing Fields Association and the Central Council of Physical Recreation. The first meeting will be held in July.
