How do I become an ISRM accredited trainer assessor?
Accredited trainer assessor information:
There are three types of ISRM accredited trainer assessors (ATA). To qualify for accreditation, a trainer must successfully complete the appropriate ATA programme.
- ISRM accredited trainer assessor - National Pool Plant Operators Certificate
The accreditation will enable the trainer to deliver training courses for the National Pool Plant Operators Foundation Certificate; the National Pool Plant Operators Certificate; and the National Pool Plant Operators Revalidation Certificate. Subject to providing evidence by CPD of their experience of operating spa pools, this accreditation will also enable the ATA to deliver the National Spa Pool Operators Foundation Certificate and the National Spa Pool Operators Certificate
- ISRM accredited trainer assessor - ISRM Operations Certificate and ISRM Supervisory Management Certificate
This accreditation will enable the trainer to deliver the 10 modules of the Operations Certificate and the three modules of the Supervisory Management Certificate (Sports Services Operations, Employment Practices and Finance and Administration). This qualification is regarded as the required training programme for duty managers and officers.
- ISRM accredited trainer assessor - NPLQ 7th Edition Trainer Assessor
This accreditation enables the trainer to deliver training to prospective trainer assessors of Unit 2 of the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification 7th Edition.
Criteria for potential ISRM accredited trainer assessors (ATAs)
Candidates must fulfil the following criteria:
- ISRM Member or Associate Member.
- Two years industry experience at a supervisory or management level.
- Previous history of training staff.
- Familiarity with current delivery and presentation techniques, including the use of 'Powerpoint'.
For the National Pool Plant Operators Certificate and related courses potential ATAs will have to provide, in addition to the above:
- Significant recent pool plant experience (evidenced by disclosure and CPD record).
- Current NPPO certificate.
Course booking
The accredited trainer assessor programme is a 3 day residential programme. Fees include accommodation, a complete set of course manuals (relating to the category of ATA attended), first course administrative support and moderation visit.
Interested ATAs will need to notify the ISRM Training Academy Ltd (ITAL) of their wish to enrol onto the programme, enclosing an up-to-date CV (e.mail: info@italacademy.co.uk).
Subject to their suitability, candidates will be invited to enrol on the next available programme, for which there will be a fee of £950 plus VAT.
What will happen on your ATA residential programme?
- You will receive a briefing about ISRM and the standards of training delivery and assessment.
- You will receive tutoring on delivery skills to a range of candidates.
- You will be taught how to assess submitted work.
- You will be assessed on your delivery of a 1 hour presentation which will include the use of 'Powerpoint', on a topic from one of the modules, at a level appropriate for duty managers/officers.
- You will receive full personal feedback on your presentation (from a national lead tutor).
What are the assessors looking for?
- The effective communication of the subject to the normal work environment associated with the role of a duty manager/officer.
- The effective engagement with the group and the ability to establish a good rapport, encouraging feedback and involvement.
- At least one exercise, with an analysis and discussion of the responses to that exercise to evaluate its effectiveness
- Effective use of training aids, demonstrating competence with 'Powerpoint', using a balance of teaching and learning through interaction.
Candidates will receive written confirmation of the results of the assessment. There are two possible outcomes:
- An approval to deliver training as an accredited trainer assessor.
- Referred for re-assessment, without an accreditation to deliver training. Candidates should consider the feedback given and attend a subsequent ATA programme for a further attempt.
