ISRM National Spa Pool Plant Operators Certificate

This is a two day training course based upon the ISRM Spa Pool Manual. It is intended for staff who have a basic knowledge and understanding of spa pools and offers them the chance to gain a nationally recognised qualification. Course assessment is detailed below.

Course aim

The aim of this course is to provide a detailed understanding of the design and operation of spa pools by examing the contamination of spa pool water and the treatment processes for that water through each of the component parts of the spa. The course investigates the water testing protocols and the interpretation of results with an overview of the health and safety implications and of the need to operate within specified guidelines.

The certificate covers the following content:

Contamination of spa water
Circulation and filtration
Component parts of a spa
Chemical treatment of spa water
Testing of spa water
Chemical dosing systems
Health and safety
Cleaning of spas
Safe use and operation of spas

Who should attend?

All persons who have an operational, supervisory or managerial responsibility for spa pools within their sport and leisure facilities.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this module the candidate should be able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of:

The importance of maintaining the quality of spa water and the possible consequences of not doing so
The principles involved in maintaining the quality of spa pool water
The design, technical construction and operation of a spa pool
How to carry out the necessary tests and interpret these correctly
The physical, chemical and biological parameters within which a spa should operate
The remedial action that must be taken if the spa is found to be operating outside these parameters
The health and safety implications of operating spa pools
The need for appropriate operating systems and supporting documentation

Please note:

This course is assessed. The assessment is in two parts - through an end of course, short answer written and multiple choice test plus a work based assignment. People attending this course without the basic knowledge or experience will not gain the full benefits offered by the course and will risk the possibility of failing the assessment. No certificates will be awarded to candidates who are unsuccessful.
