1. What do I need to start the course?
You should hold a level 3 qualification. However mature students may be admitted through accreditation of prior learning (APL).
2. How long is the course?
The course is run on one day a week for two academic years. On Mondays it runs from 10.00am until 5.30pm and on Tuesdays from 1.15pm to 8.30pm. You can normally choose your preferred day of attendance.
3. Where is this course run?
At the Rother Valley, Dinnington Campus.

4. What will I learn on the course?
This is a level 4 qualification on the National Qualifications Framework. Students will need to successfully complete the following units
Mandatory units (7) are:
• The sport and recreation environment
• Marketing in the sport and recreation industry
• Managing sports facilities safely
• Financial Management in the sport and recreation industry
• Human resource management in the sport and recreation industry
• Quality and customer care management in the sport and recreation industry
• Event management in the sport and recreation industry.
• Either Design and technical operations in sport or Sports development
And four of the following units:
• Service Development and Monitoring in the sport and recreation industry
• Environmental and ethical issues in the sport and recreation industry
• Funding and sponsorship in sport
• Research methods in sport and recreation
• Crowd safety and event control
• Wellness management
• Outdoor recreation management
• Sports tourism
Essentially this is a comprehensive grounding in the required knowledge to effectively manage sport and recreation opportunities. It is the ideal course for those wishing to enhance their current sport management skills or develop such skills in order to develop a career in sport management.
5. What skills will I develop?
Your management skills will be developed to help you be successful in operating sport and activity services.
6. Will I have to do an exam?
There are no formal examinations. Assessment of each unit is based on assignments and coverage of the unit syllabus contents.
7. What will I get when I finish?
On satisfactory completion of 12 units you will gain two awards.
• Higher Professional Diploma in Sport and Recreation Management from City and Guilds Institute.
• Recreation Management Certificate from The Institute of Sport and Recreation Management.
8. What else can I do while I’m at College?
The College is the ideal base not only to improve your knowledge of the sport industry but also your academic skills.
In addition it is an excellent opportunity to network with similar colleagues from across the region.
9. What could I do when I finish the course?
The awards are nationally recognised and successful students could look forward to developing and enhancing their career within the sport and recreation sector. Students will also be eligible to apply for full membership of the Institute of Sport & Recreation Management (ISRM).
